Agrasen ki Baoli
Today, I am going to talk about a historical landmark named Agrasen ki Baoli (Baoli of Agrasen) here. It is located on Hailey Road, Near Cannought Place, New Delhi, 10001 and also known as Ugrasen ki Baoli.
Let's know about its historical background first. Although you can get all its information from wikipedia but still I am briefing it here for you.
Historical Background
- It is 16 metres long and 15 metres wide historical step well.
- The baoli has 108 steps.
- It is believed that it was built by the legendary king Agrasen but there are no known historical records to prove who built it.
- From an architectural perspective, this step well was probably rebuilt during the Tuglaq or Lodi period.
- It is a protected monument under the Archeological Survey of India.

How to be there
- The nearest bus stop is K.G Marg and Scindia House. The baoli is on 7-10 minutes walking distance from there.
- The nearest metro station is Mandi House and Barakhamba. You can take an auto from metro stations to reach at the baoli.
- First of all, you can get free entry into the baoli ππokay... apart from the humour, there is no ticket, so you can roam into the baoli for free of cost.
- Second thing you can get is Insta Worthy pics here ππ. Picture is the thing that comes very first in our mind whenever we visit to any place in order to create memories. Taking pictures is allowed here. So you can create memories without any obstacles.
- Very few snacks vendors (like golgappe, bhel puri etc.) are there in front of the gate of the baoli. You can get various snacks,cold drinks and ice cream here. It might be a little bit costly than usual rates because of its location and availability.
Best time to go
- Avoid going there in summer season.
- November - February is the best time to visit.
- You can visit any day of the week between 9 AM - 5:30 PM.
In popular culture
- This monument has been a favourite place for film makers to shoot. This step well has been featured in movies like PK, Sultan, Jalebi and Mom.
- Eating inside the baoli is not allowed.
- Closing time of the gate is 5:30 PM, so plan accordingly.
